The rules of dating have changed. Gone are the days of the stale “dinner and a movie” first date. What you do on a first date communicates who you are and what you enjoy. And if your date enjoys the same things, it’s a great first indicator that you’re compatible!
First dates give an insight into your personality, and your partner’s. Are you more of a “fly by the seat of your pants” person, or do you enjoy more structured activities? Do you and your first date want to enjoy a casual drink at the bar, head to the outdoors, or patronize the arts together? Planning your first date is an opportunity to find out all of these things about your new someone, and hopefully plan a great time for you both.
1. Visit a Winery or Brewery
If you and your date each enjoy the occasional adult beverage, why not take your casual drink date up a notch by having a new experience together? Sampling a variety of wines or beers lets you garner insight into your date’s preferences as well as commonalities you may have. Wine tasting rooms aren’t limited to Napa and Sonoma anymore – every state in the US has at least one winery. (Yes, even Alaska!) And with the explosion in the craft beer scene, even many small towns have craft breweries.
Don’t forget to sip on your water as you sample. A recent poll covered in The Insider found that drunkenness was a first date turnoff. While it’s normal to want to calm your nerves with a drink, don’t overdo it.
2. Try A New Activity
Learning a new skill with your new date is the perfect way to see how they handle some potential stress. Visit a local archery club, take a tapas cooking class or go to the local racetrack for go-karting – pick something you have some curiosity about, so even if the date isn’t a success you still have a good time. Plus, your endorphins and your adrenaline will amp up thanks to being in a new situation with a new person. It’s a great way to bond, build potential sexual chemistry, and enjoy the thrill of the flirt while learning together.
3. Book an Escape Room
Today, escape rooms are all the rage. Getting to know how your date operates under pressure both physically and intellectually can lead to some serious chemistry. As you work together to escape, the thrill of the shared adventure will build a bond allowing you to take your potential relationship to the next level. Doesn’t that sound more fun than an awkward conversation at dinner followed by silence during a movie?
4. Visit a Sex Club
Okay, yes, this is a bold first date. But really, what better way to get to know the person sitting across from you than to bond in an incredibly stimulating situation? We’re not saying you should go to the sex club to hook up. But where better to break the ice and have an honest conversation about sexual intimacy? You may find out that they’re not on your level, but you’ll never forget that first date now, will you?
5. Go For A Hike
Nothing quite says a first date like working up a sweat – but that doesn’t have to be between the sheets! Hiking in nature gives you and your new partner the opportunity and space to get to know each other. Plus, the top of that hill doesn’t just have good views. It’s a great first kiss locale.
There’s many fun activities that can make a great first date. Most importantly, make sure you’re both comfortable and having a great time!
